Better - Same - Worse !

As I watched the President of the United States take his oath of office the other day, I couldn't help but wonder - OK, what now?

From a personal perspective, do you think our new President will make your own life better, the same, or worse? and why?

I don't see this as the President making much of a difference. That is, a path needs to be taken and its clear. It will only be a matter of time before it's corrected. Remember the Savings a Loan crisis? We've gone through things like this in the past. There have been recessions in our near past as well. The difference here is that the government is the investor as as the problem is a more wide spread. But those loans are being sold off and most people agree that there is money to be made (but knowing the government, any profit will be pissed away).

I see this as a "self correction" or a Phoenix of sorts. When problems become large enough, things fall apart and are remade/corrected.

So I don't see that a certain President makes much of a difference.

tcope, I certainly agree with your comments involving our financial stability, but what about health care and health insurance?

Many employers are cutting back on benefits or totally eliminating group health insurance all together. This leaves the burden of providing adequate health insurance coverage on the individual.

How many average families can afford to pay $600 or $700 a month for a major medical insurance policy?

Will the democratic party vote to bring universal healthcare to the United States? Would President Obama sign such a bill?

IMHO nothing has changed in health care for the past.... 20 years? Each President runs on the platform that they will make changes. What changes have been made? We don't have socialized health care and probably never will (it's far from a working format anyway).

Again, the last what... 4 presidents said that this is one of the biggest issues and that they would make changes. What changes have we seen? The President can "push" for changes but it's not within his complete control to make them.

Obama doesn't make any difference to me or my business operations.

People who are waiting for government intervention to make their lives better will still be waiting 4 years from now.

Obama is probably the least qualified person ever elected as President of the United States.
Not that THAT really matters.

We've got the 100 senators and 435 representatives in congress that holds the actual power in this country. The President is just window dressing who spends almost every single day going somewhere to speak.

The other real power base is the nine senior citizens on the USA Supreme Court. Once a court ruling is made it's extremely difficult to ever get it reversed.

So Obama to me is window dressing. But I'm glad he did get elected. And by the way, if you actually bothered to check the backgrounds of the so-called "new" administration I doubt you will be able to find even one (1) singular person who was not already in the federal government at some capacity.

Washington plays musical chairs every 4 to 8 years and the media reports that as CHANGE!

So this evening when you sit down at the dinner table with your wife and kids sit in different seats. Now tell me... what changed?

The President can "push" for changes but it's not within his complete control to make them.

This is somewhat strange. During the last four or five years of the Bush administration, the President's popularity dropped to somewhere around 23%, I think. This means that about 77% of the American people were disappointed in their President.

If the President is in fact "window dressing" or can only "push" for change, why were the American people so upset and blamed President Bush for the war, the economy, high unemployment and everything else.

We either have to believe that a President can influence changes in our country or he can't. We just can't have it both ways.

How many times did you watch the Senate or the House on TV? The President is easy to blame as he's... news.

In the case of war, yes the President has _all_ the power. But in the case of he economy, he does not. I don't know of any informed person who blames Bush for the current state of the economy/high unemployment. The policies that started this went into affect 20 years ago. Granted, Bush's deficit will create problems for us later on.

Straight from CBS News:

"The worsening economy, too, took a toll; and Americans tend to be especially harsh in their judgments when issues hit as close to home as economic issues do. Jimmy Carter's economic approval ratings were frequently in the teens (15 percent in mid-1979); George W. Bush's approval rating on the economy sank to 16 percent last September, and has not recovered much since then."

Here's what CNN had to say:

"WASHINGTON DC (CNN) -- A new poll suggests that President Bush is the most unpopular president in modern American history.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush is handling his job as president."

Maze those CNN polls are the news media creating news when there isn't any news. Have you ever looked at the sampling size? Many times it's 1000 respondents or less, that's hardly representative of 300 million Americans.

I don't know why the Democrats hated Bush so much. He signed into law every single bill that was put in front of his face right down to the second round of worthless government checks totaling $350,000,000,000 billion dollars for the Gubment to prop up failed banks and investment firms.

It's nothing more than a band-aid.

The 150,000,000,000 billion dollars to AIG, the $17,000,000,000 billion dollars to the auto industry, the most recent $45,000,000,000 billion dollars to Bank of America is for those firms to pay their operating expenses and make payroll in lieu of them having mass layoffs which is inevitable. I get a kick out of the media asking where all this bailout money is going....it's going to the banks to pay their bills since mortgage and interest income is in default.

Back to Obama...he's good for America. He's an American success story. He's my President. He's also a lawyer. Lawyers don't think right. Their minds are polluted with legal fiction and legal theory.

Look at his Executive Orders signed today...Americans don't give a flying fudge sickle about the Gitmo detainees. Yet, that's Obama's top "legal" priority because Gitmo violates what he believes to be correct "legal fiction and legal theory."

Microsoft lays off 5,000 people today and our new lawyer President is worried about the "legal rights" of persons who would slit is daughters throats and throw their lifeless bodies in the trash while filming them bleed out for Al-Jazerra.

I think change is clearly coming (has to) in the next 4-7 years...hopefully sooner...so i agree with this statement partially..

Fact of the matter is as Truman said, 'the buck stops here' so good or bad the public is going to blame/applaud the top dog regardless of whether it's his fault or not...he is 'in charge'...and i think that's how the general public views it..

Will my life (personally) change under his tenure in office? sure it will...because this particular term is rot with a horrific economy and someone (pres) is going to start throwing (more) money at it trying to fix it...didn't i read something about a 'ga-zillion' dollar stimulus check coming my way again?  either way...'somethin's gotta give' and that will mean change, will it be good or bad? i can't tell you ........ yet....but change will come (IMO)

I agree with Todd re: health care, we've been hearing about this for far to long...as my grandma would say, 'sh** or get off the pot' tired of all the talk...if you're gonna' do something then do it, otherwise shut up..

I disagree that pres. are window dressing...I don't buy that one Gary, they are very very powerful men (so far) with the ability and legal right to make changes that affect each and every american...i further disagree that he

Obama is probably the least qualified person ever elected as President of the United States.

I don't know the the critera of Gary is to be President...but IMO he's just as qualified as those that opposed him, and many other things need to come into play when you stick a man in this role...(IMO age and health are one of them....no offense big fella but what qualifications did your fantasy girl Sara have to be president?)....

I also don't think you can say he signing that executive order first really makes it his highest priority...i would hazard a guess it was 'ready' we all do that..i've got higher priority things, but they are not ready to 'finalize' this other less high on my list is 'ready' so i get it out of the way..

Click HERE to read President Obama's Executive Orders.

Lori, which one of Mr. Obama's Executive Orders signed this week have any impact on your life?

Will overseas abortion counseling help you?

Does the status of the detention of Ali Saleh Kahlah al-Marri concern you?

What about the "intent" to freeze the salaries of senior members of the White House staff, to the extent permitted by law, will that help you pay your electric bill?

Have you lost any sleep regarding, the appropriate disposition of individuals currently detained by the Department of Defense at the Guantánamo Bay Naval Base?

How about our fearless leader ENSURING LAWFUL INTERROGATIONS? How did that help you?

There is NOT one (1) so-called Executive Order signed by fearless leader last week that helps any American whatsoever.

How come he didn't suspend the federal gas tax? Not that anyone is going to get rich by saving 18.4 cents per gallon but that would save regular folks $3.68 on 20 gallons.

Now I'm not being combative here. I'm stating facts and simply asking questions.
