I am currently licensed for life/health, I am trying to see the benefits of getting a property and casualty license, what are the pros and cons as far as earning potential?

Hi leblance, welcome on board.

If you'd like to explore the property and casualty line of insurance you can always do so since it offers more scopes of business. However, in terms of earning the life/health the agents earn more on commission as well as renewal than the P&C agents.

Exploring little bit more on the business opportunities before taking the decision would be great.

I think the earning opportunity will largely depend upon whether you choose to become independent or decides to become captive. Since the captive agent will earn remuneration therefore will definitely earn less in terms of commission.

Keep in mind that the P&C line of insurance is more competitive than the life and health with hundreds of agents fighting over the fixed size of market. This may also limit your opportunities of making big bucks

However, before embarking on the new career you're required to obtain the license of sell P&C insurance in your locality. Once you obtain the license you'll be required to set-up contracts with the insurance companies. Some insurance companies may request for minimum premium requirement, i.e. you're required to generate the minimum amount of business everytime to retain the partnership. This too an important factor to know before taking the decision.

Wishing you luck!!
