A few days back some of our agency employees had complained against a manager. We've been advised to sign up for EPLI. We're not too sure about what it offers and whether it could really be useful under such circumstances.

| EPLI or employment practices liability insurance covers you from certain employment related claims. It covers your business from certain unwanted claims arising out of factors like - harassment at work, emotional turmoil, discrimination at work etc. |

EPLI also covers certain privacy-related claims. Apart form that it would also apply towards claims arising out of defamation.

| EPLI would sometimes cover for intentional injuries. Under circumstances that an injury is intentionally caused by an employee (while the company is not aware of such intentions), it would cover the company against the possible risks. It also proves that injuries that occur within the knowledge of the company would not be covered under EPLI. |

One thing to think about when purchasing EPLI is the underwriting process. You stated that you think you need to purchase this coverage because you heard an employee is having complaints against a manager. On ALL EPLI apps they ask the specific question about " Are there any prior circumstances that you are aware of that may bring a claim against you"
If you answer "no" and then a claim arises the carrier will deny the claim after the investagation process.
Just my 2 cents. There are starting to be more and more EPLI claims and they can get really ugly. I have been asked a lot lately for pricing on this coverage. |
