How to find a life insurance policy after someone dies

My Mother inlaw passed away a couple of years ago. She had told me that she had taken out a life insurance policy so she could live something for her children. We look through every piece of paper work she had. Her daughter also looked through her safe deposit box. We came up with nothing. Is there any way of tracking or hunting it down if it does exsist?

You can look it up at the MIB, medical information bureau. No guarantees, but it's a good place to look. There's a charge, FYI.

BNTRS certainly has a good suggestion for you. Apart from that you may go through her finance files (you may come across the contact info of the agent or a premium bill). You may also consult with any of her colleagues or friends that she trusted.

There's more possibility of coming across her agent information if you'd consult her colleagues. I'd prefer that. We do share a lot of financial information with our colleagues rather than our friends or relatives.

If you can find out and get hold of her insurance agent, then it might turn out to be the greatest help.
