Contesting a Life Insurance Beneficiary

I was just recently notified that I was the beneficiary on my Grandfather's life insurance policy. I have started the paperwork to receive the monies however, a family member notified me today that my uncle (Who was my grandpa's POA) has hired an attorney to attempt to get the Life Insurance monies from me. Apparently, several years ago, my uncle had tried to change the beneficiary to himself (of course) and has a "form" that is signed by both him and my late grandfather requesting this change. Something got messed up along the way and I was never removed as beneficiary. Do I have anything to worry about as far as him getting the monies and what happens now?

I have my doubts about the veracity of this so called form and the claim that it had been conveniently signed but unassumingly omitted from submission to the insurance company. If the 'form' hadn't been submitted prior to the death of the insured, then you will be entitled to the death benefit. Your uncle is probably going to fight over the proceeds from the policy once you have received it.

It does not matter what form is in your uncle's possession. The only thing that matters is what the insurance company has in its. If the "form" was never filed, the beneficiary is the last person known to the insurance company as the beneficiary . . . YOU. They will pay you the money. It won't prevent your uncle from suing you in civil court, but his chance of success is small to none at all.
