I just wanted to know how long does it take for the processes and to pay out FSGLI for death of a child. My son passed away at birth on April 26 2013 and I submitted all the required documents by the first week of May but they called us few days later and asked to resubmit the forms. Can anybody say how long will it take to receive payments? We badly need money right now.

Are you asking about Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) or Servicemembers Group Life Insurance (SGLI). I'm not sure what you are asking about when you refer to "FSGLI".

Did they state a reason for the need to resubmit forms? Normally, this is an unacceptable claims practice under state insurance laws. Additionally, all such requests should come to you in writing, not by phone calls. Depending on your state of residence, the insurance company is normally expected to pay your claim within 30-45 days of submitting the necessary documentation. If they cannot pay the claim within that time, they must write to you and tell you why, and continue to communicate with you every 30 or 45 days (depending on the state) until the claim is paid or denied.

If you are asking about FEGLI, I can tell you that I am now working on behalf of two beneficiaries of their father's FEGLI policy, because their claim still has not been paid after almost one year -- it has reportedly been held in "administrative review" all this time with no action and with no communication as required. That, too, violates most states' insurance laws.

The insurance company must also pay interest on the death benefit proceeds from the date of death if the claim is not paid within the initial 30-45 day period. States may require as much as 10% annual interest on the delayed payment of the proceeds.

Sorry, but I also misread your post. A newborn child will not usually be covered under any life insurance plan until they are 15 days of age. You are unlikely to collect a death claim in this unfortunate situation.
