Brother died Dec.his life ins.is thru co. he worked beneficiary was setup in sept. But co. now saying not in affect till Jan. .How do I claim his life and 401 .

A beneficiary statement takes effect immediately, not months down the road. You need to file a claim for benefits with the Plan Administrator. You should attempt to find out which life insurance company is involved and also file a claim with that company.
