Hi debra, be rest assured that just by declaring that the policy belongs to him your brother will not become the owner of it. Your father must have named a beneficiary in the policy and the insurance company is liable to pay the benefits only to the person entitled for it. However, if your father remained the owner of the policy then it too has to pass through the probate court proceedings with his other assets, if he has no will in place as well.
However, inquiring with the other family members may help you in locating the insurer. You may ask your mother for help if she is available.
Thanks,

Here are few alternatives for you….
- Check with relatives and friends of your father.
- You may inquire with the financial advisor of your father.
- Check with his previous employee, he may have taken out the policy when he was employed their.
- Riffling through the pages of his personal documents may even reveal the name of the insurer. Also you can investigate into his past two years Income Tax Returns.
- Check for any letter/ reminder form the insurance company, and also the check book and the bank statement, which he might have used in paying the premium.
Let us know if you have made any advancement in this regard.

First Debra, sorry to hear of the lose of your Daddy...and secondly sorry to hear your brother is such a jerk (how old is he?)...him having possession of the policy doesn't entitle him to squat...do you have any idea at all who the beneficary is? What about dad's funeral who paid for that? What about all his other property? Was dad still working when he passed away? If so you might contact his employer to see if there is a life policy with them...geeeeeeeeze what a shame... _________________ "Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake.
