life insurance rejection appeal form letter?

by aaron3313 » Fri Jan 09, 2009 07:23 pm

i need to write an appeal letter because i applied for more life insurance through my company and i was rejected due to 'medical information given on my application.' do life insurance companies reject everyone who takes anti-depressants? if so, there is a huge amount of our population who must not have life insurance. i do not believe it is good practice to deny someone who is responsibly managing their medical needs. can anyone help with a form letter? i have 60 days to appeal.

You shouldn't be rejected just for taking the meds, but if you have a history of attempted suicide or if you have been institutionalized for depression, then you could be declined.

Write a letter requesting the exact reason for the declination. Once you find out post the answer here and we can guide you.

Aaron there is no 'form' letter that we can provide...follow the advise of the prior post...and please do let us know the 'reason' for this denial...be very clear in your letter or inquire that you would like to know the reason in detail for this refusal

Is this a group life policy? If it is individual life, who is the carrier? What meds are you taking and how long have you been taking them? Any history of suicide attempts/institutionalization would have an effect on the underwriting.

Also, what state are you in? Any other medical conditions or borderline height/weight profile?

Well, I think one can't be denied of the coverage if its a group life plan. Is it correct?

Also, I got confused by the following statement made by the OP

i need to write an appeal letter because i applied for more life insurance through my company and i was rejected due to 'medical information given on my application.'

OP, what do you mean by "my company"? do you already have a coverage through this insurer? have you been on medication at the time of taking out the plan?

Yes, I think there are separate depression phases and if there's mention of some drugs then carriers do get skeptical at times.

Yes, there's a huge chunk of our population who have coverage restrictions for that matter. Now, you have not specifically shared with us as to what may have raised their eyebrows.

This doesn't really work if the OP never comes back.
