Chatter in threads

Hello everyone...it has been brought to my attention by a senior member that there is some frustration with all the 'off topic'' chatter in some of our threads...I'm just as guilty as most of getting sucked in to such chatter....I think the main beef is that many of these posts count toward the monthly contest winner and paid posts.

It has been suggested to me that I move those posts to the pub, I could but they wouldn't make any sense in a mixed up thread there either....

Let's, please try and cut some of this random chatter out of the threads especially when it's (WAY) off topic. (I'm not talking about off topic to another area of the original post or about insurance). If you want to stray and talk about another topic then create a new thread...Let's do our best to try hard to stay on topic in the future.

As always, I appreciate your kind consideration........

Lori, it's good to see this post.

It seems that sometimes we begin a conversation about life insurance and before you know it, we're talking about how someone's pet armadillo got run over by a train in the swamps of Louisiana.

When this happens, the thread is dead unless a member wants to go in and try to guide the subject back on track. I personally don't have the time to read back three or four pages to see what the original topic was.

You made the statement that putting these "off the wall" posts in the Pub wouldn't make any sense. Isn't that the reason for having the Pub in the first place? The Pub doesn't have to make any sense.

There have been many knowledgeable members here who always participated in legitimate insurance related topics, but I would think that some feel as I do. If this forum is really to be about the discussion of insurance, then we just need to keep it that way.

Some people obviously come here to make a couple of bucks and get their name on the leader board, with seemingly no interest in the quality of their posts. That's not a judgment, just an observation.

I agree, if anyone wants to talk about making peanut butter sandwiches, start a new thread in the Pub and have another beer.

I'm sure I've done that, from time to time. Sorry about that.

No what I meant by that was if I pull 'a' post out of the thread, then start a thread in the pub that I routinely dump those posts into it would be a hod podge, but I guess if it continues I won't have much choice...You are correct that is exactly the reason for the pub..

The intent here is not to single any one person out but just to make this forum a more comprehensive insurance forum, instead of a community chat room.

After all, Google is the all knowing and all seeing ruler of the internet and if we don't at least attempt to please Google then no one will be pleased.

I know when most people write a post here, they very seldom if ever, think about optimizing this site for the search engines, but being a web designer, that has some influence on how I write.

We should at least attempt to enter the word "insurance" somewhere in our posts. The more "insurance" Google sees, the higher our page ranking will be and the more people will see us. Does that make any sense?

We have numerous "guests" on this site at all times, but for whatever reason, they do not register as members. Why?

As a "member', we can make money on our posts, we can get a free blog to write and make money from the AdSense ads, and we can have direct communication with all the other members through the "PM" feature.

Also, each month, some member wins a prize valued at $50 or so. I personally think the winner of the monthly Marathon should be judged by the membership. At present, the only requirement to win is the number of posts, but maybe it should be the number of "quality", "informative" posts.
What do you think?

Everyone who comes here, should register as a "member", there's a lot to gain and absolutely nothing to lose.

I too apologize. At times it is rather easy getting off the subject. I will try myself to remain on the subject. Sometimes when trying to help someone a person can identify with the poster and it takes a more personal route. Helping people should always be top priority over a couple extra dollars and a spot on the leader board...neither which matter to me..just coming here and posting..trying to help. As I said I know I myself am guilty and give my apology.

Life..you are VERY bad...good decision T...that pony idea now really seems unappealing. What does a pony have to do with "chatter" ..I think you are getting "off topic". LOL
