I think we need to utilize the pub more, and certainly think we need to lighten up some...so thought I'd post some threads from time to time (see how it goes) that hopefully will be fun, and might even be sort of like team/community building exerises. Ok, first question...

WHAT IS THE WORST, (is it worst or worse?) OR CRAZIEST JOB YOU EVER HAD, AND THE BEST JOB YOU EVER HAD?

Worse when comparing individual things, worst when it's the "most bad" of them all.

Worst job... two:

Right our of high school I took a job at a car wash. I was pretty gun hoe about my first job. The manager told me to show up at 8am the next morning. That night I read all the paperwork he gave me. I showed up at 8am the next day and there was very little business. Manager told me and other new guy to wait on a bench. A could of cars rolled in and we went out to vacuum them. Manager did not want us working without supervisor but only one other guy was there who pulled the vehicles in the car wash. Around 9:30am a few more works came in. Since it was slow, the manager had me sit on the bench. Finally around 3pm I asked if I could go home. He said yes and asked me to come in at 8am the next day. I never went back. I think they were required to pay me but they never did.

Second worse job... worked from 7:30 to 5pm at USAA 3 days a week, then worked at Metropolitan Insurance from 6pm to 10pm 5 days a week paying health claims. I honestly don't remember much about the Metro job. Also also have no idea how I left (I was hired on as full time at USAA). Years later I used one of those searches and found out that Metro owed me about $400. I guess they did not try to find me in order to send me a paycheck. I did not even know they owed me money. Money was good but the hours _really_ sucked. Paying health claims for hours on end also sucked.

My best and worse job were the same I think, unless you count the one week I put in detassing corn, or the two days I put in hoeing beans...those were realllllllllly bad, but I was 13 or 14...

Best job, owner/operator of a bait and tackle shop, everyone that came in was in a good mood, (unlike adjusting where everyone is in a bad mood because they have a claim) they were going to do something they loved, made plenty of money, alot of pride since we built it from the ground up, sold it also at a nice profit..only threw one person out...the entire time we were in business (he was reallllllly drunk)...closed from about novemenber-march, only open half a day a week those months.

Worse job, owner/operator of a bait and tackle shop...I was the worst boss I've ever had...worked seven days a week for seven months without a day off 4am-10pm for about three months of it....didn't see my babies near enough, was so tired, cause I still tried to do all I did before at home...it was a killer....I lasted I think three years, might've been two...then sold it and went to work as a subrogation specialists in P&C claims, and the rest as they say is history...

When I was about 13 I spent a summer "haying"... most of the time I drove an old cab-over truck with no engine cover they called "the sauna". But the worst was insulating under floors in homes about a year later (my friend's dad owned the company) a lot of things live (and die) under them.

I think my favorite was metal fabrication, I did it for about 15 years and I loved the variety of projects. Eleven years ago (this month) I bought an auto body shop. Man, what a ride!

Oh Dave, I'd much rather drive a hay wagon (did that one summer by the way I liked it)...than crawl under houses putting in insulation...man oh man what a bad job...as you said too many critters. ..I crawl under cars nearly every day, don't bother me a bit...but houses...no way....

My best job was the plant nursery I use to manage. I mostly didn't have to tell any of the employees twice what to do. We all acted as equals and always got more than a days worth of work in. Even when we had a lot to do or the weather was bad we always joked and laughed to make the day better. My workers were my friends and they respected me for treating them as an equal and not their boss. They knew I would always go to bat for them concerning any issues including pay raises, bonuses, messed up pay checks and wahtever else. We truly worked as a team and I could leave to do banking or errands and when I returned you could definately see they kept up the good work. I really miss that job.
Worse job was cleaning new houses when I was 15/16. My mom started a business and got my older sister and I to help. Her boyfriend decided to quit his high paying job and go with us (never did anything) because he didn't like us and thought we would talk out mom into returning home. He was really mean and bossy and took away the time we had alone with our mom. I can remember getting some good laughs though.
One time My sister and I were cleaning the basement of one of these homes and found the furnace controls for the heat and central air. The boyfriend was well above over weight (350lbs?) and couldn't take a house that was too hot. We turned the heat up really high and could hear him ragging about being really hot. After a while we would turn it down to feezing and just kept doing it for a while. Needless to say we got to give him a really bad day while we sat down the basement and giggled are butts off. You could say we were just getting even. Later he reported the furnace had been malfunctioning to the company...guess he never did find out the truth.

THAT is funny fire...quick story about 'step dad revenege' we had one (of four  ) he was a nice guy I guess but reallllll anal...we were teenagers (my sister and I)...the guy was like clock work every day the same, shower at 6:36am, toast in toaster at 7:01am kind of guy...so we started EVERY MORNING...going down stairs and turning on all the hot water, flushing stools while he was in the shower, and turning the toaster up to burn...he finally figured out the water thing, and ask us to stop flusing the stool while he's in the shower, the toaster he never figured out and bought a new one, which in and of it's self was something he was tighter than bark on a tree...poor guy I kinda feel about about all the crap we did to him..now...

Thats REALLY good. Don't feel like crap just blame it on your youth.. My step dad was a real ***. Treated us like dirt no matter how nice we tried to be. One day I was pretty sick of just trying to get along with him. He was use to me "trying to be nice" and just didn't care to return the favor. So before he quit his job to go work with my mom (should say babysit my mom) he worked as a heavy equipment driver. When he came home he always went straight to his wooden rocking chair. One day I waxed that sucker and waxed it REAL good. I also "forgot" to retie the cushion ties on it. So when he sat down he slid right off that dang thing onto the floor. Talk about mad!!! I told him I was sorry and felt bad he worked all day so I thought I'd surprise him and clean his favorite chair...he didn't buy that one...I really didn't want him too. LOL
