Hi Lori,
I'm responding about the post you made about "17 year old w/drivers permit drove my car and he hit a car". I'm fairly new to these type of community post/blog sites. So, please bear with me. I accidentally replied to Fishman as a guest on my own post (sorry). I'm not sure if you saw that reply or not. There's a little more detail about what has happened since my last post on that reply to Fishman. But thank you for your advice, it was very helpful . I will contact Farmers claims office to see if my sons accident will still be covered or not. Worst case scenario, what if they still don't cover us even if I agree to pay the backup premium charges for that covered period, what can happen? As you can see I don't know anything about how insurance claims work. Please advice.

Thank You,
Tina

Hello Lori ..
I am from Minnesota ..I had a 2002 Honda Accord SE with 110 K MILES on it . It got totalled out after an accident but the money being offered as settlement is $7000 . I have sent the car search results to the Geico adjuster clearly indicating that the value being offered is very less . The market rate for a similar car is ~ $9000 . They are not willing to review the settlement amount . What should I do ? Can you please advise.

Warm Regards
JS

Hi Lori,..noticed your in Mo with me and thought I'd run this by you. I was hit head on by a young man who just flat out wasn't paying attention. I saw him coming in my lane probably a half mile. I had time to honk, flash my lights and pull off the side of the road. He hit me head on at 47mph according to OnStar. I was in a cadillac and he was in an Isuzu Trooper.
This young man (19 I believe) repeatedly stated how this was his 4th such accident and "I'm gonna loose my license over this" (I'm thinking this is a good thing). He was ticketed at the scene and drove his Trooper home.
I was banged up good, but refused care of EMS. I will add here that I am an RN in an ER and I see these people come in daily after minor accidents and it infuriates me to see these folks take advantage of the situation just to make a buck! I fully anticipated to be very sore for a week or two (I was just hit by a truck) and I probably have a couple of broken ribs. As a nurse I know that there really isn't a treatment for fractured ribs, time will heal. The fourth day after the accident I was especially sore and unable to work. I only missed one shift.
My question is this,...is it fair to expect the insurance company to pay for that day off since I didn't see a doctor? My brother in law attorney keeps telling me I need to go get checked out, then have them pay the medical bills, my time off work and pain and suffering (he was talking $2-3000!). That seems excessive to me,..but I do think I should get my missed pay. Am I wrong here?

Hi, I read your remarks to a guy with a total loss vehicle. I would like to hear your opinion regarding my total loss van. My van was 2004 silver Honda Odyssey EX with DVD system with 51K miles. It was totaled by Liberty Mutual two weeks ago. They provide me an offer of $14600 based on NADA. But I have found a similar van on Carmax (2004 Honda Odyssey EX with 52K miles) priced at $15998. Liberty Mutual couldn't find any comparable sales in the market. They told me 1) Carmax's price is high. 2) Their vehicle replacement service will find me a similar one around $13000. But I have to settle for $14600 first and then I could talk to that service and get the van. I am uncomfortable with option 2 and unwilling to take the offer. I want to buy the van from Carmax since it is the most comparable. Could you give me some insights? Appreciated. Janice

Actually what happened was that I lend money to this individual. After several months of trying to collect he and his girlfriend offered me the vehicle. At that point I just wanted something in return. They could not provide me with the registration slip because they said they had lost it. I had them make out a notorized letter stating they were selling it to me for 3,000. After getting the vehicle I went directly to the DMV. I found out that the lady who sold it owed $4,000.00 on it still. Lady insists she doesn't...so there is my delimma.

I am in the same boat! I wrecked my car, I was blown off the road by a big rig and flipped a couple times. I was alright and no one else was injured and no other behicle was involved. I didnt have insurance because we couldnt afford it two months prior. Now my Car people sent me insurance proof applications for a while and then stopped sending them. Do you think they took out insurance for me> If so will I be okay if I report it to them? I still owe $8000 and I have been making the payments on what is now a hunk of scrap metal for four months. I need serious HELP!!!! You can email me at megsgirl07@yahoo.com any time. I appreciate it
