There was a short circuit at house leading to a small fire in my living room which damaged the wiring and some portion of the flooring. Need to change the wiring for the house asap. Will my Insurance cover it or I have to do it on my own?

Insurance would most likely cover damage from the resulting fire. It would not pay to rewire anything that was not damaged by the fire. If the insurance company learned that you knew the wire was defective, you did not take care of the issue and another fire started, they may not extend coverage.

This is going to be on your dime, not that of the insurance company. It is a "maintenance" issue.

As tcope has said, if you were aware of the wiring problem PRIOR to the loss, your loss itself may not be covered. One of the provisions of your homeowner's policy is to maintain the property in satisfactory condition -- that is, to not allow hazards to somehow become perils (such as faulty electrical wiring causing a fire).

I have been in the insurance business for over 30 years and have NEVER heard of a carrier even attempting to deny coverage for the resulting fire damage. I have to agree that the re-wiring would be excluded.
