not satisfied with insurance company

I had to relocate since I had a fire at home. However, the repair works were done by a sub-standard contractor and am not at all satisfied with the work done. Besides, I was not even given an estimate before the work started. Can they deny paying for the living expenses?

Only after the contractor claims the work is complete, or after you've exhausted your policy limits.

If you dispute the completion of the work to satisfactory condition, you may be able to extend the Additional Living Expense payments. This will likely be a sticking point between you and the insurance company. You may end up needing to hire a Public Adjuster to help pursue your claim with the insurance company.

That would be done BEFORE you go looking for an attorney. The PA would ask for about 10% of your recovery. The attorney will get 3 to 4 times more than that.

ALE coverage is usually written with some limitations that apply to "reasonable" repair time. It's usually not going to allow for extra time because a contractor takes way too long, other repairs are made, work is not done correctly, etc. If the contractor you hired is not doing the work correctly and this is causing a delay, you would need to hold this against that contractor.

This should be a contractor that you hired, no?

I'm guessing it was one recommended by the insurer.
