I sold my house a few months ago. The buyers recently informed me that they discovered damage to the roof. We all agree that the damage occurred from a hail storm while I owned the house (and it occurred within my homeowner's policy period of coverage). Obviously I no longer have the policy, but can I still file a claim with the insurance company for the damage that occurred during the policy period while I owned the home? (I want to use the money to help the buyers pay for the repairs and/or replacement of the roof.)

You could but I think you'd be crazy to do this. It would be recorded on a CLUE report as a claim you filed. Other insurance companies will use this info to determine what your rates will be. If you are okay with possibly paying higher property insurance rates for a long time just to help the buyer out, more power to you.
When a person buys a house it's "as is". It's up to them to have the home inspected to determine if any damage. If they did not do this, that is one them. If you did not know about any hail damage then you were not required to tell them about it.

Being on the buying end and having paid for both a normal home inspection and for an A/C specialist inspection during the 'buyer's option', I'm still dealing many issues that most would consider abnormal for the house. It is conceivable that repairs will get into the 10Ks for a house that cost ~200K.

I do not believe that your insurance company would pay this claim as you have not suffered any loss. Had you have sold you home for a discount due to the hail damage you may have had an argument but in this case you did not suffer any loss and therefore I do not believe that you would have a claim.
I have had several clients sell homes in the middle of disputing a claim or claim payment and we have only ever been successful when the homeowner is able to show some sort of a financial loss due to the damages.
The buyer should have had an inspection by a qualified home inspector and had they noticed the damage at that time you could have helped them.
