renewal refused without stating reason

If the policy is up for renewal and the insurer refuses to do that, isn't he supposed to provide an explanation?

Not necessarily. If an insurer is withdrawing a line of insurance from a state, they are usually required to provide sufficient advance notice to their insureds. Any other nonrenewal must simply not be discriminatory. You can always ask them for the reason coverage was nonrenewed, in which case they have a duty to give you an explanation. If they fail to give you an explanation, you can file a complaint with your state's Dept of Insurance.

Insurers are required to notify the insured if they choose to cancel or non-renew the policy. The non-renewal notice has to be sent at least 30 days or 60 days prior to the date when the policy will expire. Usually the notice states the reason for the decision.

Yes you have a rights to ask them for the reason coverage was non-renewed.if fail to explain you can file a complaint against them.

Yes, they should. If they don't come up with something, then you can file a complaint for sure.

There is no requirement to explain a non-renewal, but if there is a particular reason, they should disclose it upon request. If you believe you are being discriminated against in some manner, then you should file a complaint with the Dept of Insurance.

Yes, they should actually provide an explanation for not renewing.
