Roofer tried to make me not pay deductible

So I had a large deductible on my roof amount of 2600.00. Well a roofer said he would take care of it. Repaired my roof and gutters. My insurance company mailed me a check for partial amount minus depreciation of around what my deductible was. Well I just got a call from my insurance company that they are not going to pay the depreciation because the invoice they got from the roofer wasn't for the full amount of the claim. So now it seems as though I'm 2500.00 short on what I or the Insurance company owe the roofer? I'm not great at this stuff but seems as though he shouldn't of told me he could cover the deductible if he can't. Is he going to try and make me pay that? Or did he mess up and it's going to cost him? Just need some advice.

What does your written contract with the roofer say? You do have one of those don't you?

... and immediately you should have turned and ran away! This person was saying that they could knock off $2600 from the cost to put a new roof on?

I'm guessing this idiot roofer subtracted $2600 from his repair bill and actually put that in writing. He did not do you any favors.

Is he going to try and make me pay that?

One of my superpowers is not reading minds. Have you asked _him_?

What you _may_ want to do at this point is have the roofer write up a _correct_ service invoice and send this into your carrier. You may just eat crow and tell them he was going to waive $2500 to help you with the deductible but now he's not going to. This is going to raise some red flags but you are just admitting to the truth... that your roofer is an idiot.

Good chance you will have issues with the workmanship of the roofer. No one does a good job _and_ waives $2600 of their bill.
