Is it necessary to take out a home insurance policy while buying a home?

You have to know what the lender requires. Most require a fire insurance policy to cover their interest in the property. They don't care one iota about your contents or liability to others for personal injury or property damage that a comprehensive homowner's policy will provide protection against.
