My insurer just dropped us due to an older roof. Can you suggest an insurer who will cover the home until I can afford to get a new one?

I think there must have been a much more important reason than this. Aren't the walls and floors as old as the roof?

I assume the "new one" you refer to is the roof, not the home or the insurance company. You need to work with a local insurance agent or broker who can figure out what you need to do. Your post here makes little sense, and is not worth trying speculate on any other answer.

That is actually very common here in Florida. I know that Citizens which is Florida's insurer of last resort will often times require a Roof Condition Verification inspection. I believe they only require it on homes that meet certain criteria such as age of home as well as the age and type of roofing system on the home.
If they require you to get a new roof in order to extend coverage I would agree with MaxHerr that you should find a good agent to shop it for you.
