I wanted to buy a 2000 Trans Am WS6, but I can't really afford insurance on it.
I was wondering if anyone knew about show car insurance, and whether a car like hte WS6 is eligible for it, or if its only for classic cars. If this car could be eligible for show car insurance what are some companies that offer it?

Hi ! Its for sure that ws6 is a show car and gets you entitled to show car insurance.
My friend has two trans am cars in his household...they have insured with JC Taylor who are known for their services as the largest insurer of specialty cars. Why don't you try them out ? regards, Horatio77 _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved.
Hi Revenga333, it is appreciable that antique collectors like you not only procure rare pieces but think beyond that as well. I've been associated to the automobile industry for abt 15 long years and therefore can suggest you a reliable name.
I'd like you to go for Grundy Worldwide since they not only offer you lower rates but they offer you optimum protection as well. Their underwriters would also support you with benefits like an agreed value, no Model year limitation, highest liability limits, automatic coverage on newly acquired cars. All of these would again be supported by an unlimited mileage.
Its better that I attach their contact info with this message.

I was looking into Grundy Worldwide which you suggested. I don't know too much about insurance so I have a few questions. My first question is, if I have Grundy Worldwide insurance do I still need a regular non-collectors insurance? By this I mean can I drive any cars other than this car and still be insured? For instance if I wanted to drive my parents car? Or do I still need to stay insured under State Farm as well?
Second, I didn't see too many details on the coverage. I saw that I could choose up to 500,000 covered in damages. What does this cover for everything else (medical, bodily injury)
Right now my coverage from state farm includes
Bodily injury: 100,000/300,000
Medical Payments: 10,000
Uninsured Motor Vehicle Bodily Injury: 100,000/300,000
Underinsured Motor Vehicle Bodily Injury 100,000/300,000
Can I get the same coverage with Grundy?
My last question is if there is an age restriction, I'm under 21 and also have been in an accident that I was found at fault in. Does this make me unelligible??
I know you all probably don't know the answers to all these questions, but any answers you do know are appreciated.... I'm probably going to contact them soon and ask them these questions.
Thanks. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved.
Hi Revenga, nice to see you back. As per your initial queries, I had suggested you to go for Grundy, coz they are specialized in collector cars insurance. I understand that State Farm is dedicated towards offering all types of insurance policies as always.
But as it is in your case, you are certainly not looking for a general car insurance as offered by these insurance giants. That's exactly the reason why I suggested you to opt for someone who's specialized for Show cars. I'm sure before you're gonna apply for any such insurance program you'd definitely go thru the brochures offered by them.
Once you go thru the brochures check if they live up to your car's requirements. You may take your time share with us regarding the details or consult an attorney as well, before you finally apply for it.

From my experience if you have other autos that you drive on a regular basis you are going to have to have a regular policy on those cars aside from the show car/collectore policy and the collector policy will usually have to carry the same limits as your other policy. Definately inquire though, as the company you go with may have a program for you.
As for eligiability due to your accident, again every company is different and has different underwriting requirements and rules...they will let you know if you will not qualify.
To address one of your questions, your age will prohibit you from coverage from some of these companies. When I was 22 I called a number of these companies and many of them had an age restriction of 25 or older.
Secondly, some of them will only take cars that are a certain age, or if they don't agree with your value that you want to assign to your vehicle then you may not get coverage in that case either.
Your best bet is to state all of the important information up front on the phone with them and then just let them tell you whether or not you even qualify before you waste your time with one that won't cover you. Important information would be your vehicle, what YOU feel it is worth given a total loss, your age and driving history, if you will have it garaged or not, etc.
Good luck, it isn't easy to get this coverage but if you can get it then typically it costs less than a national "cookie cutter" company like State Farm.
