I had a bottle of What Oder spray which I use to freshen the smell of our house. The spray bottle stopped spraying - so I transferred the liquid to a generic bottle. While we were gone last weekend my son's dumped the Oder spray - and replaced it with bleach to spray on their white tennis shoes to clean. Not knowing that I grabbed the bottle and "freshened" each room as i usually do after cleaning. Now the carpet in each room has beached out areas! Will my home owners insurance cover this and do they pro-rate the carpet for the number of years we have had it or do they replace at full price less deductible? _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved.

Oh my gosh Kirks! That's awful! I'll bet your boys are heading for the hills!

Unfortunately there is not coverage for this, in fact most Homeowners policys specifically exclude damage caused by an insured and/or resident of the household..

As I've said it won't be covered, but re: this question, if a covered loss occurs it would depend on your policy if it's replacement cost or ACV (actual cash value)...
