Hi, you need to know a few things correctly. As a new resident in GA you are supposed to buy a Georgia tag &/or decal before 30 days of your new home establishment. (In that case if you were here just for a short trip for 90 days or less, you'd not have to register your car in GA. For that matter, Maryland's license plate would do.)

But, now that you're staying here permanently & earning over here, you need to procure the GA state tag for your vehicle. If you don't know how to go about it see if this page is of any help to you>> motor.etax.dor.ga.gov/locate/tagoffices/index.asp?errcd=W0801

hey...once you enter Georgia...it is either purchasing the state tag or decal by 30 days.. you need to register & attach the following docs:
a) The title (In case the title is with a lienholder then attach the financial docs as well as the address of the person along with the a/c no.).
b) The recent registration doc depicting out-of-state
c) A replication of your latest GA coverage binder
d)Odometer record showing the purchase date
e)Get the POA & the contact info of the vehicle owner in case it is a leased one.
f)Your license in GA

Now, you could either visit the GA Deptt. of Rev or one of the regional offices. See if you could derive any assistance through calling - 404-417-4477 or 1-877-602-8477
Good Luk!

i now have a georgia drivers license. iwas given a citation for no proof o insurance and suspended tags.

Don't see any fault over here..GA authorities didn't get a trace of the proof it seems..not their fault! But what I don't understand is when you say-

However, no state of maryland says my tags are suspended for no proff of insurance. i am still paying progressive dor insurance.

Heard of many problems regarding Progressive...but this one is truly out-of-the-blue!! What on Earth are you paying them for???

You post is a little hard to follow...You got a ticket for no proof of insurance, which also caused them to pull your tags until you have proof is that it? You need to get yourself to your local DMV and see if you can get new GA tags for your vehicle...It sounds to me like you have some unresolved issues in Maryland is that right? I'm confused, please explain where you got this ticket.....or did you get two? :?

Sounds to me like she was purchasing insurance in Georgia for a car titled in Maryland.

I had a situation similar to this happen. The customer moved to Texas and stayed in their RV while their home was being built. During this time, they purchased insurance here and cancelled their insurance in Florida. Florida received the notice of cancellation and sent a letter to the insured, which did not get it since they didn't submit a forwarding address because they were living in their RV. Needless to say, the Texas insurance was not sending anything to the Florida DOI and they ended up suspending their license until they mailed the plates back or provided proof they registered the vehicles here.

Now in the OP's post, I think she may have some work to do, getting this corrected. Sounds like she did not reregister the vehicle so proof of registering the vehicle in Georgia may be difficult.

My advise would be to call Progressive and Geico and ask for a "Letter of Experience" from each of them. These should be official enough notices to present to Maryland that you have had insurance, just in another state. I don't know how they'll respond to the lapse in coverage but that cannot be fixed now.

And, register your car in Georgia if that is where you live.

You take care of the citation for no proof of insurance (seems that you got this citation in one of the "in between insurance' times. At the same time you register your vehicle in GA (today) and you mail your Maryland tags back to Maryland (tomorrow) (or do with the tags whatever Maryland wants you to do with them). You may want to pay a little extra and send the suspended tags (if required) by certified mail. When you go into court on 4/17 you show the judge your current/active insurance on the vehicle, your current/active GA registration and, if possible, the certified receipt showing you returned the Maryland tags as requested. The judge sees that you as a person who made a mistake but is trying to do the right thing and will probably let you off in the most lenient way.

You REALLY need to 'DEMAND' to know what's going on with the car. Sounds like you had no idea that something was 'wrong'. If the car is in your mom's name, then SHE is liable for whatever transpires.

Contact your local DMV they should be able to run the plate and tell you all the info....including suspended tags (if the privacy stuff doesn't get in the way)...did she pay the ticket?
