Most People Can Expect Rebates by May Under Economic Recovery Plan

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Most taxpayers could expect a rebate of up to $600 starting in mid-May under the economic aid plan set to go through Congress within weeks.

Couples could get twice as much, with even more for most families with children. All that, however, depends on smooth sailing at the Internal Revenue Service, and the agency already is up to its eyeballs in filings and refunds.

Under the President's current recovery plan to help stimulate the economy and ward off a recession, the IRS says checks could starting getting into the consumers hands by May.

We are all eagerly waiting for this to come, hopefully it will get passed soon so that it don't get cut anymore. It was initially $800 per person and $1600 per married couple until the demo's got a hold of it and wanted more benefits for welfare, I think this is a bunch of crap, give some money back to the working man for a change, we need a break. This is supposed to be a tax rebate plan, you have to work in order to be taxed on income.

hopefully they get it past soon, it seems like the more talks there are the more the working people lose. I agree with you completely August.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I sure could use that extra money.Although we will have to claim it as taxable income next filing year...lol

That is fine with me, nothing is ever really free, I could use it right now too, it would take care of a debt for me. I know that it will be a question on next years tax return, but I will deal with that then.

I hope they get moving on it soon, we are not getting it soon enough, so they need to get off their buns and get it out there to us. LOL.

As far as I can tell, I should be getting back around $1200 right, $600 for me and $300 per kid x 2. This sure will come in handy, my daughter will start college this year so we will try to put some of it back for that anticipated expense.

I think it is a temporary fix but they were talking about permanent tax breaks on the state of the union address last night. I watched the entire thing. A lot of good points came out. We shall see what comes out of it. A lot was covered in 50 minutes, if you did not see it, I am sure that you can find a recap somewhere online somewhere.

I for one would not like to be president."can please some of the people some of the time but you can't please all of the people all of the time".That would be my motto...lol

Yeah, but look at the money you would be making, you would not be here typing for pennies, LOL. Just kidding. Maybe you would be here solving the worlds problems.

I don't think that anyone could possibly fix all the worlds problems so we should just do what we can do with what we got. I think those who think that they can do more than they are really capable of doing need a reality check.

Like right now, all the politicians that are running in these campaigns are just spewing out words that they hope but don't know for sure if they can do something about or not. They are saying what they think the american people want to hear or need to hear so that they will vote for them.

Once they get elected they really don't have much control over what happens, if congress or the house votes it down then, the president can just veto it and send it back, but can not just say that I want this to happen and poof it happens, it is a whole process with a lot of people with different agendas involved. that is what the president was talking about in the state of the union address, them tagging on items to bills that just hold things up. He warned them that if they did this he would veto it. None of the democrats stood up and clapped on this one, most just sat there with a somber look on their faces.

So the person who gets elected is more or less the spokes person to the house and the senate, they all vote on these issues, unless the president feels that it is really, really important, then he will veto it, but this does not happen very often.

These candidates can say they are going to fix this and fix that, but it is not totally in their control, a lot of other people have a say in it too.

I wish they would hurry up and pass this bill, I could use a few bucks right about now, especially with the price of gas going through the roof. I am broke!
