When I was 18 was cuaght up and caught a robbery charge and recevied jail time. I completed parole with good behavior, and now 20 years later would love to become a adjuster in Texas. Would my past felony stop me from getting my license?

Pick up the phone and call the TX Dept of Ins. Ask.

I guess you'll need to submit your statement regarding the past circumstances that provoked you to commit such crimes. Along with that you'll perhaps need to provide copies of your charging document and copies of other documents e.g. probation order, parole certificate, deferred adjudication order, conviction judgment etc.

You must also attach recommendation letters from people who're in touch with you and are aware of your past crimes.

Thank you for your help. Accordance with the law I've found out that it does not classify as a crime of mistrust, but I still have to jump thru the hoops.....anything worth having is worth fighting for

Robbery may not fit your definition of "mistrust", but if your conviction was a felony, robbery is still one of the crimes covered under the Federal Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act (18 USC 1033). You will have to obtain a "consent waiver" from the Insurance Commissioner in Texas and any other state in which you want to be licensed.

I agree with Steven.

They will by themselves ask you for submitting the statements and all the documents related to the offense or crime you made.

Federal (and adopted in all states because the states had to adopt):

"Any person who has been convicted of a misdemeanor involving breach of trust or for ANY FELONY is barred from keeping or obtaining an insurance license UNLESS they have the consent from the regulatory official in your state (the Insurance Commissioner) stating that the consent is for purposes of "satisfying 18 USC section 1033" regulating those in the business of insurance."

The waiver that Max mentioned is a continuation of the federal law: 18 USC section 1034 is the waiver/consent specifics.

DUI without injury to another person, at best, is a misdemeanor. 10 years is a looooong probationary period (we should have that in CA!). But it should not prohibit being licensed. Your state may have more specific regulations. Contact your state's Dept of Insurance to discuss your situation.
