Travel insurance for international vacation

My husband and I are planning a trip for Australia this fall but we are a bit confused about our travel insurance. I have come to know that most of the US citizens who are going for short-term travels are covered by their employer’s plans (health insurance). But since we will be quitting our jobs and spending almost 4months in travelling, we won’t be having the coverage of our employer’s health care. Getting a private one is not a big deal for us since we are both healthy enough. But would it cover our travel too?

If not, can we get a good travel insurance plan for the time being and get separate health insurance once we get back from the trip?

You could continue your former employers' health insurance under the COBRA continuation privileges.

There are also several international insurance providers who have the kind of medical coverage you are seeking. Just "google" the topic.
