Hi, I got my new laptop along with a warranty card. My home owners agent has to say that it could be covered. Is there anything else that I may do in order to feel more secured?

My friend, it is always important for us keep our valuables secured. I understand your point that it has come with an extended warranty. It is not always that we know for sure whether we have the right kinda coverage or in right proportions.

Yeah, I'd suggest you to ask the manufacturer for warranties that would cover for the defected parts as well as the hardware. But remember, it is not gonna cover you for any accidents. That is where a good laptop coverage is in demand. BarbieL

Dear..why don't you get an extended warranty?
I believe extended warranties are provided both by the manufacturer as well as the seller. Likewise the the manufacturer's warranties they are gonna cover for the defected parts or hardware. But, at the same time they would also cover for the power problems, water loads as well as breakages. So I guess you see the power of extended warranties over here!

Hi,
Many of us would actually use a laptop provided by our employer and keep on worrying about covering it to the best. Little do we know under such circumstances that it is the responsibility of our employer to get the right laptop coverage. But yeah, we'd need to make sure that it is actually covered by our employer and in no way is left uninsured. If it is not..then we'd need to talk to our employer about getting it covered. Hey dear..you said you have a home owners policy...am I right?
You can rest assured that the HO or the Renters policy would certainly offer you some amount of coverage but the most important thing is to know whether that's sufficient or not. Please don't forget to know the following from your agent-
* The kinda accidents that would be covered
* Whether it is offering ACV cover or replacement cover
* The worth of the deductible that you'd need to bear
* Whether it would offer you any extra bit of coverage for the computer

I'm asking you to get a fair idea of all these facts since it is truly important for you to know about these. If things are not in line, you may always look for a coverage on computer.

Hi,

If you're gonna search a bit..I'm sure you'd come across a couple of companies that sell laptop insurance coverage for different laptops and personal computers. Well, I was going through all of the above mentioned propositions..n I truly believe that if you have not opted for any of the above...then this is possibly the best solution for you in the market. That is why I keep on urging people to go on window shopping for laptop accidental coverage before committing on a particular one.

See, it does not mean that if you have more than one coverage for laptop, then you'd be able to use all of them at once. Some times it may so happen that you're consistently paying for an extra bit of coverage with a carrier...which would not be of any help to you because you have that area pretty much covered through another one. So, I'd better not waste money for additional coverages. Companies would come up with different forms of coverage...and an offer might just seem unique to you while in reality it is nothing but the same old benefit in a new pack. So, its high time that you make sure what you need! Thanks, Plasticmind

Dear..whenever you count on what is covered...you do have the right to know what things are not covered under a particular policy.
Yes, there are certain things which would never be covered under these warranty insurances-

  • Damages from pest
  • Rust and corrosion
  • Usual wear and tear
  • Environmental conditions eg. heat, damp, cold, dust etc.
  • Planned damage
  • Data retrieval
  • Equipments that are to be leased or sold
  • War

So it is better you go through the offer carefully while you're signing up!
