Very rightly said :D and they are the people responsible for computing the amount of annuities that are to be paid on an annuity plan and also are required to calculate the premium rate for the plans.

Actuaries are the people who are heavily relied upon by the insurance companies for devising the right ways for doing business. They are appointed to scrutinise and formulate mathematically the business of insurance, its risks and uncertainties.

Actuaries are required to measure the likelyhood of an event and its impact and their studies involved study of the demography, consumer behaviour and their preferences, mortality and morbidity rate and so forth.

Hope it was helpful :D
