How can I qualify for Unemployment Insurance?

I have heard that you can receive certain compensation from the state if you're temporarily out-of-work. But I don't know the details about it. If I can only manage to work part time for last six months, do I qualify for the benefits?

Contact your nearest unemployment office to find out...There are many many restrictions and qualifications you must meet...Most importantly why or how you lost your last job.

If your employer moves you from full to part time you can usually collect but I don't think you will be able to if _you_ elected for the change.

Hi keith, you may get qualified for the unemployment insurance if you satisfy the conditions mentiond by tcope.

However, the story doesn't end there. In reality the qualifying conditions are so stringent that it has made it almost impossible for the low wage earners and the part-time workers to qualify for the UI benefits, when your employer is still paying the taxes towards the fund. If you are earing $8.00 or less, you're less likely to receive any benefit.

Almost, 32 state of USA do not recognize the part time workers for the unemployment benefits. You are really required to contact the nearest unemployment office to know more about it.

Hi Cutip,

Well, I think it has to do a lot with the state guidelines. Hence, you need to tell us that. In some states you can't collect unemployment benefits if your work is seasonal in nature or while you are vacationing.

Would you be actively searching for jobs during the summer? If not then it too can pose another constraint over unemployment benefits.

I work for a home health agency in Oklahoma. I was recently offered a field job as an RN... Am currently salaried in the office as Director of Nurses, of which I bring home a set amount of pay per week. As a field RN, I am not guaranteed a set amount of pay. Do I qualify for unemployment?
