I am a motorcyclist injured in an accident caused by a cyclist she is uninsured and has no assets. Should my comprehensive policy insurers pay me compensation in this case.

Hi Kenwindle,

Well, I doubt if comprehensive is the answer. Collision and comprehensive coverage are known as physical damage coverage, i.e. it would pay out for the damages caused to the MV but it wouldn't compensate for injuries.

Which state are you from? Are motorcyclists required to carry insurance in your state? Do you have PIP or Medpay in your policy?

For damage to your motorcycle you would either need to have collision coverage or uninsured motorist property damage coverage. Comprehensive coverage would not apply.

You mention injuries... certainly comprehensive coverage would not apply there. You'd need to have uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage or some type of medical payment coverage/P.I.P.

Hi There,
This would be an Uninsured Motorist claim on your motorcycle insurance policy. Also, still considered a "collision" although with a bicycle.

There is UMBI and UMPD (one for injury and the other to address property damage). Two different coverages to address two different things.

Do you have motorcycle medical payments coverage on your policy? If so, your would be entitled to use it to pay valid medical expenses for yourself/passenger related to the accident.
