The devil is, of course, in the details of both candidates'' complex health reform plans. But their responses to Brokaw''s question at Belmont University Oct. 7 expose the fundamental beliefs around which each has built his plan for reforming the U.S. health system:

Let's put our thoughts in this issue of debate…

Do you guys feel that it's our responsibility to provide affordable health care benefits to our fellow countrymen?

Given the facts that the healthcare cost has gone up by 100% since the year 1996; the American society can demand for an overall change in the healthcare system. The sheer fact that around 1.5 million of American can't afford health insurance is enough to make us think that a reform in this sector is inevitable.

I'd vote for a complete makeover of the health care system and therefore of the health insurance business as well. But more often then not the politicians don't mean to say what they actually say.

However, since it's a hot topic of debate between the probable presidential candidates we may experience some changes in the current healthcare system in the near future, but it'd be too early to comment on its outcome.

The Americans already have enough on their platters to worry about the health care system reforms.

it before and I'll say it again: a vote for a Democrat is a vote for heghir taxes, no matter what they say. At least McCain was up front about it, even though I disagreed. I am completely against taxing our health premiums or benefits. That would mean no more pretax flexible spending accounts which really help my husband and myself. We pay ENOUGH in taxes. Read my lips, and I REALLY mean this: NO NEW TAXES. EVER.
