Comprehensive travel medical insurance: this is important that you remain healthy while on trip. And a medical situation can arise anytime. Hence make sure that you have a health policy covering you on tour. The comprehensive travel medical insurance plan is for people who don’t have any health coverage even in their native land. Emergency travel medical insurance: this policy will only cover the emergency medical situations. Once you are back home the coverage will cease. Many private health insurer as well as the HMOs now offer emergency travel medical insurance normally for trips of less than 30 days.
Medical evacuation (medvac) insurance: you may not require this coverage but it covers the expenses if you need medical evacuation by air ambulance. It typically excludes adventure sports and other such events which may need medical evacuation frequently.
Trip cancellation and interruption insurance: apart from the medical reasons, this is another facet of eventuality that may upset your traveling plans. You may have to cancel your trip due to medical or political reasons. This coverage will refund the expenses if you have to abandon your plans for the specific reasons described in the plan. However, most of the insurers don’t cover incidents like-war and terrorism, under their standard policies. You have to get it clarified from the agent.
