1.Speak to your veterinarian:

Before you buy a pet insurance policy definitely speak to your veterinarian.The veterinarians do not sell insurance policies themselves, but they may direct you in a proper way, in case you want to sign up with a policy.

2.Inquire about their work direction:

Ask the insurance company, if you would be able to choose the veterinarian on your own. Some policies do not allow you to choose any veterinarian you would like to, rather you would have to opt for a veterinarian amongst their listed veterinarian.

3.Get confirmed about their policy coverage:

Before you opt for a policy, you should always check out the coverage, the insurance company is providing. Inquire, if the insurance company is offering anything more than the standard pet insurance coverage. Some companies do not cover some preventive measures like vaccinations and many others, on the standard pet insurance coverage.

4.Check out the system of co-payment and deductible:

Nearly, all the insurance policies have a requirement of co-payment and deductible. Some pay it for the "usual and customary fees" while some others as the actual expense incurred. Always get cleared about the ways in which you would get the reimbursement

5.Be sure of the exclusions:

What the insurance policy covers, greatly depends on the clauses of the policy. Some include certain coverages, while some others may exclude that same coverage. Nearly all the pet insurance policy excludes the pre-existing conditions but some companies may not cover those. So before signing up with a policy, checking out the exclusions is necessary.
