I am thinking of getting insurance for our doggy. I'd love to know if the coverage exclusions are same as that of the exclusions that we have in our policies.

I remember a looooong thread we had here, a lady was ticked because apparently one of the exclusions in her pet policy was they don't cover anything that is herititary, or genetic. As with any policy you need to read it, AND understand it, before you agree to purchase it. Or most certainly immediately after receiving the policy, to see if it's a good fit for you.

The Pet insurance policies like any other coverage policies are different with each carrier. Just like the way the policy benefits may vary in terms of nature and proportion, the coverage exclusions may also vary significantly. That's why it's so important to go through the exclusions clause before you sign up!

Like most insurance plans the pre-existing plans are excluded. It actually has to be a condition that was there in your pet prior to the commencement of the policy. Again, it will not cover conditions in your pet that couldn't be diagnosed since he was not taken to the vet in time.

Certain conditions may just be hereditary and therefore excluded. If the hereditary conditions are at an initial phase, they might be covered under some policies.
