Bill, our doggy is 10 years old and all of us are worried about his health.

He's arthritic and we've had to pay around $400 for an year-long medication. Do we get pet insurance coverage for his bills?

Probably, you'd need to visit the vet's in order to pay for his bills. The insurance co. will then reimburse the cost at a later date. Go through your policy papers to know more about the claim settlement process.

Yes, it's better you follow the claims process very carefully and know how much time it takes to get a claim settled.
If there's a provision for you to choose the doctor you wish, make sure you list your favorite doctors.

Like all other types of insurance you will need to choose a higher deductible in order to pay a lower premium. Also check if there's any restriction to the number of visits or claims each year.

Make sure you check out the "waiting period" prior to your policy sign up. I say this since you want to cover a dog which is 10 years old. Some policies have a short waiting period, while some others have a year-long waiting period.

Keep an eye on the coverage limit. It's generally worth a couple of thousands every year. Be sure of the coverage period. Some of these plans have to be renewed each year. Also, check out the policy norms regarding existing health conditions before you sign up.
