How Progessive Helped me

I was so shocked at what happened that I had to tell someone. Progessive did more for me then GEICO did in the nine years we had a policy with them. In the new age of computers and emails, everything at our house is done paperless. After being with GEICO for 9 years we had to file our first claim. They payed the claim and fixed our vehicle with no problem. But when it was time for our next monthly payment we never received the reminder email until the payment was past due and cancelled. When I tried to make the payment they wanted to charge me a 20% penilty fee for allowing my policy to expire. (Which it wouldn't have if I had received my reminder email, or snail mail). We decided that if they could treat a customer of that many years that way then they were not reputable. So we decided to give Progressive a try. They were great. They gave me a quote I was happy with and the equal coverage I had before. Then all of a sudden they found a mistake and wanted to charge me an additional fee of $300.00. Well I was beside myself. I had just put out all I had and didnt even have enough food to put on the table. I knew my only answer was to cancle the policy and get a cheaper ins. with less coverage and just pray nothing happened.
Well, I called and spoke to a representive at Progressive and told him my situation. He said wait let me see what I can do, and within a few day's I had a call saying they wrote off the $300 and were giving me an $80 refund. I was able to go buy food for my family and had the coverage I need to keep my family secure. There are companies out there that do care and do help!!! Thank You Progessive!!!

Well...I know I've told the Forum about my car accident. Actually..when I've been talking about the OTHER driver's Insurance Co., the other Insurance Co. was Progressive. Even though Progressive was on the 'other side of the fence' with this case, they DID treat me pretty well and gave me a fair price for my 'totaled' car. very pleasant to deal with, etc. And that's MY story..LOL

Hi Thorpe,

I am glad to know that you have found good deal with progressive.

However, regarding not receiving reminder from Geico, I feel the customer is responsible for making the payments on time. And the insurance companies, though they may send you reminder, are not obligated to do so. Hence, you can't hold them responsible for failing to send the reminder on time.

Anyway, good luck with the new insurer!

Hi V. Thorpe..

It's interesting..did they mail or send you any written explanation stating the cause of the rate hike and the fall thereafter?

Steven,
Yes, the reason for the rate change was due to a mistake they made me in quoting my policy. But niether here nor there they did not have to help me. I'm a small fish in a large pond and the simple fact that they helped was a big deal to me. You come against comp. every day and for such a large company to help someone out was impressive to me. Like I said they had every right to say "so sorry but that's the way it is", but they didn't. And as for the post from Jeremy, yes it was my responsibility to stay on top of things but being a customer for that many years and never late on payments, I just feel they should have shown more loyalty. That's just my feelings, and GEICO was good to me all those years and my rate was cheaper with GEICO then Progressive. But the quality of care and compassion for another is more important to me. My one time mistake should not have to cost me 20% increase.

Thanks for letting me share.
