Just thought I'd share.... after being unemployed for 2 months I found a job! I did not do as good as I could have during the 2nd interview so I thought they would pass. I've changed jobs several times over the past 10 years which _really_ counts against me but there are not many experienced adjusters in the state I live. They called me yesterday and offered the job. Working out of my house, making just a tad bit more then last job but I also get a company car and don't need to pay anything for person use.
Get a hold of this... it's all commercial losses and they currently have 2 adjusters in the state. One has less then 2 year experience and the other has less then 1. I cannot imagine how a company can expect people to handle commercial claims with so little experience. Like I said, it's slim pickin's where I'm located.
Company had permission to hire an adjuster for a total of 4. They now only have 3 with me and plan on writing personal lines policies in 2008. They have never laid anyone off. I think I'm in a good position to do pretty well with this company. Next year I'll be in a much better position to negotiate a big pay raise :wink: .
Now I can go out and spend some money on my new house!

I found out today that I start 9/24 (shadowing someone handling claims temporarily) and then head out to Ohio for training on 10/1.

My parents flew into town so I opted to start 9/24. I don't fly to their home office until 10/1 for training (1 week) so the first week is really just to get things in order. I need to pick out a company car and set up the office in my house. I will be nice spending someone elses money 8) .
I think it will go pretty well. I worked as an independent adjuster (for a company) for 2 years so I work well alone... but the draw back is that I won't really see any co-workers. There are 2 other employees in the same are but everyone works from their homes. But it's certainly something different and I'm looking forward to it.

Well, shoot Tcope, I must've read it wrong, (thought you were starting in August) ! :oops:
When I started with the company I am with now, (either 99 or 2000-can't remember, I do know it was May 1st !).... I was the 'lone' adjuster in this area, (resident adjuster) they set up an office in my house, (desk, file cab. fax, couple phone lines), unfortunatedly my co.car is a freakin' billboard... although nice and 4x4, have to be awful careful about my 'attitude' while driving ! I drive so much ever day think this is my fourth or fifth one ! :lol:
I still work 100% in the field and alone, there is a branch claims office now in the town I live in so it makes it easier for me to get supplies etc, when I began the closest one, or one I worked from was 75 miles or so. I personally like working independently, talk to a boss once a week or so. I worked in a branch for 11 years, (different company) and I'll take this independence over that ! However, I will say it's not for everyone, must have self starting/organizational skills, sure you do, I've seen some that just plain aren't suited for it !! And need that constant supervision, for me it's great not having a boss looking over your shoulder all the time.
I know the company I work for had a couple of postings for commerical lines, couldn't be we will be working for the same company could it? Wouldn't that be funny !:lol: Ott-Oh, I just re-read your post and think perhaps we might !! :wink: :wink:

I also interviewed with Ohio Casty as they wanted a "multi-lines' adjuster. I've always seen this to mean BI+PD but what they were looking for was a PD adjuster/appraiser. I don't know how to write up an apprasial and I don't want to be locked into just PD. I mention this as I now have to think about who I'm working for (names).
