At present we are residing at a rented flat and thinking of getting home insurance for shorter period as we shall move to our ownership flat. What kind of insurance should I buy? Confused

You need renter's insurance. It covers the personal property like television, clothing, furniture etc. A standard renter's insurance provides limited coverage for the jewelry items. If the property exceeds the limit there is a seperate policy called floater that provides additional insurance.
Ask your agent to provide the details.
