I truly appreciated the person who broke down the $599 in "fees" to join SHC. In my opinion, any legitimate company that cares about their staff's success offers training.
When I called to cancel my web apt. naturally I was asked why...when I said it was due to the overwhelming gut feeling that came from negative feedback I got from my independent research I was astonished by their response! The tone of her voice was beyond rude as she suggested I didnt know what I was talking about b/c these reviews were from people paid to write negative comments. Then, she hung up on me!
If that is the way they treat their potential employees objections then I'm not interested to PAY to learn how they train people on senior's objections in a one-call close setting.
Ouch...give the job seeker a wee bit of credit please. Perhaps there are some "out to get this company" however that is truly the beauty of internet...the truth (usually somewhere in the middle) is readily exposed. The only payback I've rec'd from this experience is the bad taste she left in my mouth regarding the company! So much for their objection handling techniques with regard to potential consultants... _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

This thread has been dormant for a year, but here goes . .
I just left SHC after about seven weeks. In short, it's not a "scam," but it is a job that only a very specific type of person will be able to handle. And no, this doesn't mean that you only have to be willing to "work hard." The hours are hellacious, but I knew this going forward.
The trick is the one-call close . . you are expected to meet a senior, warm them up, get them to think of you as their long-lost grandson and convince them to switch their insurance they may have had for 15 years. This needs to happen within about a two-hour period.
I will say that their recruting practices aren't exactly 100% honest. The things I was told that "almost everyone" achieves early on are bogus. Do I have proof of this? No, because SHC very wisely does all they can to control the flow of information between agents. They discourage new agents from e-mailing or calling back and forth. This is sneaky but smart -- it's a VERY frustrating job and would be for 90% of the people who try it, in my opinion.
So you CAN make money at this, but it is HARD CORE sales. I'm glad I tried it if only to know that I won't be good at hard core sales. Again, not a "scam," but I would not advise anyone to try it. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

The fact of the matter is that a one call close with a senior is not always a very ethical thing to do. Seniors have multiple family members that they rely on, and most like to consult with them on major decisions. Although some seniors are still very on top of their own business, many are not and are willing to trust just about anyone!
It can be a very stressful sales environment, and I strongly believe that an appointment with a senior should not make them uncomfortable in any way. There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. In fact, many of the pushy sales techniques are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN by Medicare and the companies that market Medicare programs! |

I think that any company that asks you to basically start off your own business by investing your own money is not good. For example... in schools you get supplies, laptops, etc and everthing you need to do your job, it does not come out of your pocket. You know they are always recruiting because people go in there and quickly realize what's going on and leave. Just a Heads Up _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

Unfortunately with SHC it is more about playing on the weaknesses of senior citizens to get them to sign up for programs that they do not understand. It is incredibly important to spend time with the potential clients and ensure that they really comprehend everything that has been discussed.
I market a lot of the same products that SHC does, but I do so with pride. I'm not afraid to go grocery shopping for fear of running into a client. If I receive a phone call, I don't screen it to see who is unhappy. Although these seem like extreme examples, they were both given to me by a former SHC agent!
How far are you willing to go to make money? |

Please beware of SHC - Senior Healthcare Consultants. I joined them recently because of the promises to make big buck of over 100K the first year. After I paid my $599 fee, I found out that this company is not honest. There were many misrepresentations. I then canceled my training class in Dallas and requested an immediate refund of my $599. They refused to refund my money. I really think this business just makes false promises and makes their money off agents. For example, the web conference I attended had over 50 interested new agents. If all these agents pay the $599 fee and take one of the weekly classes, SHC would make $30,000 off of these 50 agents just for the 3-day training class. Just imagine how much they would make if they do this 52 weeks a year. $1,560,000 in a single year by getting 50 new agents to take the training class. Also, they charge agents for the leads even if they are bad leads. An agent makes approximately $125 from an average sale. Yet, you have to pay SHC $288 every week just for leads. That means you have to make over 2 sales a week just to pay for the leads. After figuring gas and wear&tear on your vehicle, you really need to make 3 sales per week just to break even. Soon, you find out that it is all a SCAM of making money off the agents. PLEASE LEARN FROM ME, DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!! _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

1) They charge you a fee! It is not a job.
2) They don't return Agent's calls.
3) The company is running their operation on the backs of
the agents. The fees are paying the bills, not the earned
commissions. It is a genuine scam, because the agent's commissions could never support their overhead.

All I can say is WOW! I found this thread while I was on hold with the 800 number listed in an SHC recruiting email I got from my resume being posted on Career Builder. They must have done an auto scan on my resume and picked up the word "insurance" from when I started my IT career with an insurance company in the early '80s. Never being in sales, I thought, hey, as an IT manager all these years, half my job is "selling" anyway (IT folks know what I mean), so why not call the number and check it out! After getting off of hold and being forwarded to a voicemailbox for the recruiter listed on the email and leaving a message, I finished reading this and know to definitely stay the hell away from SHC! Now with this info in hand, when the recruiter calls me back, I think I'll have some fun with her! It will be interesting to see what kind of responses she has! Thank you all for saving me and many others a lot of potential time, effort, money and grief with this piece of $*!+ company! _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

I was going through a rip off report about SHC before I could reac h this forum but they seemed to provide quite a good feedback about this company. I am a little confused though after reading all the negatives written here as I was looking for some Senior Healthcare Consultants complaints just to check out if they are a worthwhile company or not. I have an interview lined up with them on the 22nd of this month. Any advice? _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

Curiousnneedhelp – You need to understand that Rip Off Reports works like the Better Business Bureau. Meaning, as long as the company replies and tries to work out a solution with the complainant they will receive a good score. You need to make an educated judgment on what you believe to be true. In fact chances are that all the complaints are true, but as long as SHC works with Rip Off Reports they will seem like a good company.
If you are just getting into insurance sales, STAY WAY from SHC. There are tons of companies out there that will pay for your training. This is of course in exception to your licensing; just about, everyone will want you to obtain your license on your own.
I shortly worked for SHC, and I posted here before. I can say that almost all of the claims about the company are true. I can promise you that you have a 99% chance of losing your money if you go with them.
During your interview, ask them about some of these reports. I would put money on your interviewer getting nasty. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |

I can't believe people are so bitter here.
I have recently gone through the interviews with this company, and to be fair I have seen nothing held back.
Are they going to make themselves look bad? No of course not. But in all fairness they lay out everything to you.
Every bit of information conveyed here in complaints has been explained fully to me by recruiters. SHC explains what you could pay for in the beginning, the 18 dollars per preset appointment is not a surprise at the last minute. If anyone with half a brain searches the website and reviews the information(like SHC requests you do) they will know all this information.
To be honest anyone who gets all the way to Dallas, THEN decides they don't like all these fees is an idiot. If the company isn't for you, don't go for it. There may be better out there, but by no means is this a scam. _________________ Register Now to have your Insurance queries solved. |
