Group policy against obstructive sleep apnea

I have heard that some of the group insurance policies do not include any of the benefits for the diagnosis and treatment of 'Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)'. Could anyone of you name such a policy ?

I am the owner of a Tennessee based company and got insurance from Blue cross/Blue shield with prior notice that I had sleep apnea and had scheduled surgery.
They incurred a cost of $80,000 for my surgery and follow-ups. I am now 98% cured and devoid of any OSA. After I had become an insurance agent I suggest BCBS to most of my customers.

I've heard of that, isn't that the syndrome that causes you to stop breathing while you sleep?

I never guessed it could kill someone or even pose a health risk, I'd think that the sudden suffocation would instantly wake you up. I guess it can be hard for someone to guess that they suffer it, someone who stops breathing for a moment during the night would probably pass it off as a small nightmare. I probably would.

People sleep with monitors on don't they? Doesn't being overweight make this condition worse also. I know they have been doing alot of sleep studies on people with this condition, trying to solve what causes it. Don't some people have to sleep sitting up to make it easier to breath?

Yes...I do agree that people do need to sleep with monitors on in order to cope with their demanding jobs. The work stress related problems have really contributed towards the growth of the health care industry in recent times.

Where I'm from, a company can get fined a colossal amount for failing to reduce workplace stress. Which is a good thing because Scotland has free healthcare and people going in with stress-related illness every other day can be a real burden on the tax pounds. (Doesn't have the same ring as "Tax Dollars" huh?)

Is something like that done in the US? Huge fines I mean.

As per the common law, the employer is the one who has to take care of the general safety of his employees. If you're the employee who feels that you're being exposed to a lot of work stress, then you'd need to come up with the proof that it was quite ascertainable for your employer that you could have suffered from a psychiatric injury due the stress at your work place.
The court of law needs to ascertain whether the employer had enough scope to jnow about such sufferings. There might be an investigation that is aimed at finding out whether you were really showing up such symptoms while you were working ie. bursting into tears, shivering or falling unconscious. If such symptoms were there, then it is evident that your employer should have taken a note of that had he been rsponsible. If so, then they would have needed to support you as per their resource strength. Got it!

Stress in a workplace is common play, I work in the employment industry and deal with people and employers on a daily basis, I am unaware of any law that states that a work place must be stress free, there would be no work places at all if that were the case. We all deal with stress daily in our jobs.
