I believe this is a type of farm insurance. Farm insurance can repair or replace your farm buildings, equipment, livestock and crops in the event of a disaster. Agricultural insurance can also protect you and your family in the event of a lawsuit due to a consumer safety issue, a farm visitor or trespasser's injury on your land.

Flood affected regions, rain-soaked farms, moist atmosphre farms have greater risk of disasters. The insurance company takes assurance of the products of farms normally in terms of farm output per acre. Company pays a sum in the proporion of premiums to the policy holder. They also encourage such people to use modernised techniques of agriculture. Many of the big agriculture companies are associated with geovernmet also. Hence they also provide finance if particular criterias are met.

Ag insurance is structured similar to commercial insurance. Not to echo what the other replies said, but it protects financial interest in the farming business.

by definition insurance is meant for the monetary compensation of the loss occurred due to any unusual circumstances. As farming is mostly dependent on (in most of countries) natural circumstances, it also comes under the category of unusual circumstances. so many of the companies do offer crop insurance for the particular season.
if somebody fails to get good crop then he/she can ask for the compensation from the insurance company.this is also associated with the risk for losses during transport, loss due strike of any kind.

Well, I think that agricultural insurance is available in the developing countries where the economy relies mostly on farming. Often these programs receive government supports and subsidies. And yeah, it would provide coverage against-crop failure, losses related to over production, low quality seeds and the like. Groundnut

yeh !! it's true but government hardly subsidize the insurance premium.

As insurance premium for crop won't cost more than 3 days wages of any small farmer.

Hi Groundnut,

And yeah, it would provide coverage against-crop failure, losses related to over production, low quality seeds and the like.

Would it be possible for you to clarify what forms of crop-failure you're pointing to? For instance- would it cover for crops destroyed due to shortage of water?

Insurance can be provided for any instance which is 'not a regular' type of loss.In lay man's term it can be offered with those areas where water is abundantly available or where there is a little bit possibility of rains.

No insurance company will offer there crop insurance for the failure of water in sahara.
