Before purchasing term life insurance I want to check the stability of a specific company. How do I contact the national data base that would have that information?

Check with the sites mentioned by Tcope, they would give you details regarding the financial status of the company. To know about the complaints filed against the insurer, you can contact the state insurance department. Another source is the Better Business Bureau. It too lists customer feedback and complaints against business entities.
