Unique Question

I have a question that I want to ask more from curiosity than anything.Where I live a lot of Amish have moved into the area.I look out my door and they are there and beside me as well. I am beginning to feel Amish. Not to long ago a buggy was pulling out of thier driway just about time it dark. Well cars always speed down our road and there is a hill there. We have lost many dogsthere .Anyway the buggy is pulling out of the driveway and a car hits it. Well I know Amish don't have to have a driver's license and I suspect neither do they have to have insurance on their buggys. The horse was hit and had to be shot on the spot.No one was injured to my knowledgebut there was damage to the car and also the buggy has never been repaired and put back on the road. Who is liable in that case and who fixes what? How os some thing like that handled?

First of all the buggy was likely at fault, (pulling from a private drive into thru traffic before safe). Second of all, I can only speak to the MANY claims I've handled with the Amish, and Minanites (not sure I spelled that correctly) and they ALL had insurance.

It's handled the same way that any accident is handled. The at fault party is responsible for the damages they cause. I will say that in all the claims of this type I've handled, only one time was the horse and buggy at fault.

Lori is correct, it's handled the same way. I have worked one buggy accident and it really is no different than any other auto claim. I will say this, Amish and Mennonites are some the nice and most hospitable people I have ever encountered. I settled a property damage claim for a family, and the grandmother tried to get me to stay for dinner. When I told her I could not she insisted on sending me home with pie and other things. Very nice people.

And most the most honest...I've NEVER had a claim with these folks (thanks for correcting my spelling by the way)...where they tried to get more than they had before..Wish I could say that for even 50% of the general population.

I am surprise to learn they have insurance since they don't own cars or trucks or have hospital insurance .What type of insurance is this they have that covers a buggy accident.IS it like home owners? Our neighbors that had the accident never had their buggy repaired.Yes, the majority of them are honest and nice but they take much from a community and don't do much to better the economy. They are all about doing anything and everything to earn money even if they have no experiance in the work they are performing and don't give back to help the economy.Like the general population also they to have their bad apples. We live where they are all around us and we are learning much about them.

Generally like a farm policy.
