Can someone sue me for almost hitting them?

I was driving my daughter to school in the morning like any other monday. As I was making a right turn I saw a man crossing the street and I slowed down the I proceeded to make an immediate left turn to my daughter's school. When I parked the man accused me of almost hitting him and he told me I was going too fast. While I was bring my daughter into school I think he took down my license plate number. Does this man have a case against me even though I never actually hit him? Can he sue me? He never called the police when I was there and now I'm afraid he called them after I left?

The person needs to have suffered some type of damage in order to claim some type of loss. In this case the person _could_ claim emotional disturbance but he' need to offer proof and even then he'd have a 1 in a million chance of winning. I'd not be too worried about it.

basically he'd be claiming to you scared him so much he suffered an injury because of it.

as tcope said the chance of a sucessful lawsuit in that case is pretty slim.

I wouldn't be too worried. I did this to a guy. I came out of store and found the guy parked next to me has his passenger door resting against the side of my Jeep while putting bags in his back seat. There was a small white mark on my car. I told him I was an adjuster and that I had to report the claim as it was my company's car. I took photos of the cars, took his insurance information and wrote down his license plate.

Did I ever make a claim, no the white mark rubbed off with my finger. I just hope that he will think the next time.....I doubt it, but I can hope.

I think if he files a lawsuit, he'd be wasting his time and money. If you had slowed down in order to make an immediate left turn, then I guess there's nothing much to worry about.

I'm sure statutes vary from state to state. Here in Pa. I've have a number of claims paid out over the last 20+ years on the basis that the claimant felt they were in "grave bodily danger" even though they suffered no physical injury. And clients wonder why rates go up !! :o

Did the man actually come out and SAY he was going to sue you? REALLY...sue you..for what?..if you never touched him. I don't think his life changed THAT much within those few minutes.
