I was in an accident this evening and I have no insurance. I live in Kansas City Missouri, which is where the accident took place. I was on a one lane highway. I needed to turn around because I had missed my turn. I put my right turn blinker on and then decided I wanted to turn left so that I would be pulling back onto the highway on the same side. I put my left turn signal on, slowed down, and then started to turn. The person behind me was not paying attention and tried to go around me in the on-coming traffics lane. He thought that I was turning right. We collided. The police did not ticket either one of us and just said that our insurance companies would have to figure it out. I told them that I didn't have my insurance on me but did not tell them I didn't have insurace. As I have already stated, neither of us recieved a ticket. What should I do and what Should I expect? To anyone out there that wants to be angery that I didn't have insurance all I can say is that I am sorry. I would like to have insurance, but if I have to chose between keeping utilities on and having insurance, I have children, I have to pick the utilities. So please show some compassion and don't berate me. Thank you very much for any advice. Just wanted to add that I have been driving for 17 years and have never been in an accident while I was driving, and have only been without insurance for about 7 months.

He did not admit fault and my concern is since noone was ticketed. Is there a chance that he may not have to pay for my vehicle? I believe it was a dotted line and there were no witnesses to confirm that my blinker was on. He told the police that My blinker was on to turn right.

This doesn't matter, liability still has to be determined for the accident.

Sounds to me like you are most likely the higher percentage at fault. It sounds like at the last minute you changed your turn signal from right to left and had moved to the right. There might be some comparative on the other driver, it will depend on where the accident was, is passing allowed etc...

There would be no need for anyone to berate you about this...but you'll more than likely discover that this accident is going to cost you a whole lot more than finding a way to pay for insurance.

If you are determined to be at fault for this loss (not to mention lying to a police officer that could bring you criminal charges), the other drivers insurance company will pay to fix his/her damages then come to you for repayment. Same if they are injured. Failure on your part to pay for this damage (or set up and keep a payment plan) will likely result in your loosing your license and any plates in your name (by the way you know you have to prove ins. next time your vehicle's plates are due for renewal right?). Also a hefty fine, and reinstatement fee.
