I fell at a hotel

I fell at a hotel and hurt my leg. Just wondering who I should contact to get ER/medical bills paid. There should be no problem in future with my foot as it was only a bad sprain. I would like to avoid using an attorney and believe since it is a simple accident claim that it could be put through the property holder's insurance. Is this correct or should I be doing something else.

You should contact the hotel to let them know about the accident. It should have been reported right when it happened, otherwise it might be difficult to show it happened at the hotel.

The hotel might have Medical Payment coverage which could address just your medical bills. Another other then depends on how/why the accident happened.

Did you report it when it happened? I used to deny these all the time. The person could prove that they stayed at the hotel, but wouldn't report the injury for a few weeks after the stay, with no independent witnesses.

So as long as you reported it at the time of the accident, MedPay if they have it should have no problems with the bills. Any additional money (pain and suffering) would depend on where you fell, how did you fall, what caused you to fall. There may be no liability on behalf of the hotel and you would only be able to get MedPay if they have it.

It was reported immediately to the hotel. I actually have receipt showing I stayed at the hotel. It occured in a stairwell that did not have adequate lighting. The light only shined down on a certain portion of the steps. Last step blended right in with landing in darkness. Accident reports were filled out. EMS responded. The hotel is willing to cover the medical cost and personally that is all I want. Pain & Suffering, yes it hurts and it's annoying, but if they just cover my medical expenses it will be just fair. Not looking for a get rich scheme, just to have them be responsible for the accident. I just want to make sure that they also fix the light so that noone else gets hurt. It could of been alot worse if I wasn't holding the rail. Someone else may not be as lucky. Almost hit my head into a brick wall.

Hotel tells me they will take care of medical bills. See people really dont' need to sue just to be treated fairly. It should be about what is right and not about the amount of money you can get from someone.

The hotel would have already reported your injury (likely anyway) to their insurance company or equivlent. I have dealt with quite a few slip/fall with many major hotels. The matter will be investigated (if that hasn't started already), an adjuster may contact you or one will be sent out to speak with you to, obtain your statement, gather or request your medical bills/histories etc. Should be fairly painless, pardon the pun :lol: .

Good. I'm glad they are responding. If an insurance company gets involved and its not just the hotel paying out of pocket, and the insurance company accepts liability....they will most likely want to give you more then your medicals to get a full release.

In such case as yours, it is important to see if the injury caused was due to the negligence of the hotel or a personal fault. Some hotels do have an insurance policy that covers a limited medical expenses sustained on their property automatically.For others, you need to prove who is at fault.
