I was in an accident and now need to go to court. This was in Missouri, a cop showed up, no one was injured the other driver admitted it was his fault and was issued a ticket. Is there any way to get out of going to court on this?

Here is the million dollar question... _why_ are you going to court?

Have you received a summons to appear? Do you live in Missouri?

I'm guessing the other person dispute the citation and the court is requesting that you attend. I don't know the legality of this, if indeed this is the situation, but I doubt anyone is going to cite you for not showing up.

I live in Missouri, and what the officer told us at the time of the accident, was that since he wrote the ticket, the state of Missouri requires a court date/appearance. This is only because the other driver was issued a ticket.

Yup, I'm guessing you probably received some type of summons in the mail. Legally I think you are required to show up. On the other hand I _highly_ doubt Traffic Court has ever held a witness in contempt if they did not show up.

Since the at-fault party has admitted his fault, there is no need for you to worry. Its just a summon from the court, only a legal procedure.

I think it also comes down to how strongly you feel the other person did something wrong and if they should be cited for it. If you don't show up in court there is a possibility that the citation would be dismissed and this person's record would not reflect that they did something wrong.
