my car insurance company cancelled my insurance and i had no idea until i called to maike a claim. i was told that my policy had been cancelled 2 months ago and that they sent letters to my address. i have not recieved any letters warning me of an outstanding blance or cancellation. when i got the policy i paid for the full year which was more than 5,000. my policy was suppose to be effective until may 22,2010. they agree that the charges were for something that i did not have to pay for (additional driver being added who doesnt live with me) but they still closed my account for lack of payment. should i be refunded of my payments for (january-may22) is this legal for them to cancel my insurance for non payment of something that i should not have been charged for. i payed the whole year in full and i get nothing! they told me they couldnt call me to tell me that i had a balance or call or email me to tell me that i was being cancelled because they didnt have the time. they claimed to have sent a letter but i never recieved it. please help

First, it appears that there was a change to the policy, it seems that a driver was added to the policy. Is this correct? It seems that this increased the rate... yet, you state that they acknowledge that this should not have changed the rates. I'm guessing if the policy cancelled for non-payment that there was an amount owed and it was not paid.

The insurance company is only responsible for notifying you by mail. They will usually need to produce a proof of mailing, not that the letters were received. You can ask them for this you you'd like.

If the policy cancelled prior to the end of the policy and the is excess monies, then it will be refunded. However, the vary nature of cancelling a policy for non-payment usually means that there is no extra money to be refunded.

You should get something... you got coverage for the amount of months you paid for.

You need to get a copy of the letter they sent they HAVE to have this...once you get it, if you're still confused about it, let us know exactly what it says, and we'll see if we can be of greater assistance.
