How do I find out if my mother had a life insurance policy she passed away 23 years ago in California

I would think that the people that handled her arrangements at the time would have had this info and collected on any policys 23 years ago...have you talked with your father, her siblings or parents who handled the arrangements, and gotta ask, why are you wondering this 23yrs later?
