Insurance companies ripping us off!

I recently got a quote online & the price was 1/2 of what I was paying before. How can some companies charge twice as much per month??!?

Online Quotes tend to be somewhat off the real cost of Insurance. First you have to go through Underwriting, now I'm not sure what Online Site you went through but most offer up the cheapest price or no underwriting and give you the Preferred Price. Now you may qualify for the Preferred Quote or you may not, most I find do little effective underwriting. Plus you have to compare contracts, some contracts are better then others. A bad contract can leave you holding a lot of Risk. Or should I say a large bill when you need coverage that they may or may not cover.

Online quotes are often given in the very best rating classes.

Sometimes only a small fraction of consumers will qualify for these classes. Classes are dependant upon past history, health, and even credit sometimes.

While I use 'online marketing' as part of my whole business, I do understand that eager companies can use 'bait and switch' tactics. If you speak to an agent, they can review your information and give you a good idea of the rates you will actually expect.

Of course, insurance underwriters have their own ideas, and sometimes we agents are off - either too low or too high from the actual issue cost.

They are probably NOT, more than likely if you look closely your 1/2 price quote has lower limits and higher deductibles..or is ''subject'' to underwriting review....

You have received some very good answers so far, but this is a question I have asked many potential customers who come into my office.

If my quote is $500, how can they offer it to you for $350?

First of all, it's just a "Quote" or an "Uneducated Guess".
Some states require liability insurance coverge, in my case, the minimum required limit is $10,000 - what a ridiculous figure! Many vehicles on the road today are worth much more than that. These quote engines don't tell you that if you totally destroy a $45,000 Cadillac, you will have to pay $35,000 out of your pocket.

The quote engines don't tell you that your "Comprehensive" deductible is $1,000. How much does a windshield cost? $250 - $450? This means that you would buy your new windshield.

A lot of the insurance quote engines will tell you something like - "Thank you for your interest in XYZ Insurance Company, a representative will contact you within 48 hours".

The quote engines provide you with absolutely "NO" customer service. If you have a concern or a question, who do you call? Google?

There are thousands of independent agents all over the United States, who offer quality insurance products, backed by solid insurance carriers, why would anyone want to buy a product like "insurance" over a computer?

And (many not all) Lord help you all (on these small unknown carriers) if you have a claim! I've been on the opposing side, with some and they appear to have no guidelines...some people wait a week just on a call that they have their claim and will assign it to a rep! Mine (claims) are closed most of the time within a week!

You can go online and get a quote at --- or call me toll free ----------and you will get the same price online as you would over the phone I do know a lot of the online quotes are giving you less coverage and there best rate at first and once you buy it your policy comes in the mail and its alot more and you finding yourself going back to a local agent . Local agents are part of your home town and care about you as a person !!! I like going to an agent even if it was a few bucks more !
