Bought vehicle as a daily driver from orginal owner. Drove for 1 week then timing gears broke. Can I file a total loss claim or diminished value claim? Vehicle worth 1600. Repair cost 1200. I have full coverage.

Not for this you don't unless you have some kind of warranty you purchased. Your insurance will NOT cover a penny of this hon., it's mechanical break down/failure, this is not covered. and I'd bet it was the timing chain/belt that broke Wink

Could have paid $50 to a mechanic to examine the vehicle before you bought it. Probably would have noticed the worn belt/chain. "Cheap insurance" if there is such a thing.

Although you might have a distantly remote chance of winning in Small Claims Court against the "original owner", I wouldn't take that bet.

Fix the car with your own money or junk it.

That was your mistake for certain. Just the way we consult an insurance professional for our coverage needs (before we sign up), likewise we should also get other things checked before we pay for them.
